A Cup for the Existence of Whiskey
How much time would one need..to locate all the pixels to form an image of two men being vulnerable with one another?
An infinite amount may suffice,
It’s not something you come across often,
For decades I’ve been searching,
It’s been nothing but a cold..case
It truly is criminal..that we as men can’t open our arms to embrace a face,
A heart that beats,
A mind that suffers..quite often in silence,
All because of the ideologies,
Of voices from outdated generations..
That verbally constructed men to be..
Creatures that say they don’t feel,
We ate the lies that were forced fed to us as a youth,
Slowly we started to distance ourselves before COVID was even a thing,
We wanted to create separation from other boys,
From other men,
We were tricked to seeing each other as competition,
We need more brotherly love,
More Philadelphia,
It Hurts..when the number 1 thing holding us back..is us,
Life can feel more like a vacation from isolation..if more men checked in to Hotel Vulnerability,
Brought along all their baggage and unpacked things through honest conversations,
Instead we say “I’m good”,
“I’ll figure it out”,
We need to become comfortable with fostering friendships that aren’t surface level,
Yes, the occasional jokes and sports talk is fine..but what about the thoughts we get cardio from during the day?
The ones that track us down when the moon replaces the sun in the sky,
Many of us do..share a specific kind of sadness,
A sadness that can be reeled in from a bottle of whiskey,
With every sip,
A crack appears,
Emotion spills,
It shouldn’t take 80 proof..for us to provide each other with proof..that we sometimes need heart to heart,
That we sometimes can’t bare to wear this armor that the world places on us with unrealistic expectations,
That we sometimes can’t fathom that we aren’t allowed to have tears present on our faces..because it screams weakness,
We need to take a journey from one set of eyes to another,
Remind ourselves that we can create a world where less men suffer silently,
The first step is doing so ourselves,
And talking things out,
And we need to learn to do so,
Whether the whiskey is present..or locked away in the shelf.
Cuz sober conversations..are the ones you’re more likely to remember.
