A Bouquet of Tulips for You

Flower, flower flower, flower,

Flowers,

To my reason for existence,

Here’s a bouquet of tulips..for you,

You’ve managed to always kept me grounded,

Must’ve been employed as air traffic control..your emotions,

Was a concept you never tried to lay on me,

You mentored me to let myself feel..every one of them and let them pass through,

I could always 1,2,3 on you for those..impactful conversations,

Where you’d remind me that the scars..paying rent to live on the exterior of my heart..could never taint..the amount of love that finished paying their mortgage on the inside,

True genuine love will always have ownership over my heart,

You see..I never had the knowledge growing up to express what I feel..because every man who looked liked me,

Mimicked words that past down from generation to generation,

Boys don’t cry..

Little homie you gotta man up..

Keep that soft shit to yourself..

The world doesn’t really care..

They just pretend to and point fingers,

While their suffocating from gas that dentist provide,

The laughs..guide so many boys who eventually turn to men..to keep their vulnerability in a locked box and throw the key away,

It was looking like I was confined to that same generational curse..until I identified my key..to my box of vulnerability,

It didn’t come from a locksmith,

It came in the form of something I could hold in my hand..with the tip of a ballpoint

You see,

I never thought I’d be here on stage..because of a partnership that we share,

I always thought our conversations would stay between U..and I,

But those 11 letters..that separate the 2,

Helped put words together..along with the rest of the alphabet..so we can deliver poems to ears,

So we can show strangers..that they too..can relate to the language we speak,

To my pen,

To my fuckin pen,

To my everything,

If I can locate every flower in the world…I’d gift it to you.

Every..single..time.

Because you took a boy..who use to deal with suicidal tendencies,

And raised him to be the loving man he is today.
